American Ballet Awards wants every dancer, parent and teacher to be able to use this site. This statement describes how it has been built, what has been tested, and what is still outstanding.
How this site is built
- Semantic HTML and landmarks. Every page has one <h1>, an unbroken heading order, and main, nav and footer landmarks.
- Keyboard navigation. Every link, button, form control and interactive element is reachable and operable by keyboard, with a visible gold focus ring. A skip link is the first thing in the tab order.
- Contrast. Text contrast is measured against the colour actually painted behind it, including over photography, and meets WCAG 2.1 AA.
- Forms. Every control has a visible label. Errors are announced with the field, not signalled by colour alone.
- Reduced motion. With prefers-reduced-motion set, all scroll effects, parallax, the custom cursor and the loading curtain are switched off and nothing is left hidden or mid-animation.
- Images. Every image carries descriptive alternative text; decorative imagery is hidden from assistive technology.
- Text size. Nothing renders below 10px, and form controls are 16px so mobile browsers do not zoom on focus.
What has been tested
Automated checks run on every build across nine viewport sizes from 320×640 to 1920×1080, covering heading order, landmarks, labels, alternative text, contrast, rendered text size, keyboard reachability and reduced-motion behaviour.
Known limitations
- This site has not yet been tested with a screen reader by a person who uses one daily. Automated checks cannot replace that, and it is the next step.
- The tour section’s city photographs are loaded from an external source and will not appear without an internet connection. They are decorative; no information is lost when they are absent.
